ABOUT ME

These two last years have been intense with work and achievements.
Apart from the usual editorial illustrations for the the Imperia New Magazine
my book "La Cosa Importante" came out .
It was shown at the Fiera del Libro di Imperia in June 2012.

I wrote the text and drew the illustrations. I did also the graphic of the book. It is about  Soul and the place it goes after life.
I had the honour to have my work presented at  the local Public Library by Professor Leo Lecci , Professor  of Contemporary Art at the University of Genoa

In May 2013 the second edition of my first illustrated book was presented  at the Public Library of Sanremo and Ventimiglia.
Ten years ago I had published  with Fabrizio Vincitorio, school teacher and writer,  a collection of children poems Un Giro di Giostra. It had been  a good success, and the edition was sold out. Two years ago  another publishing house asked us the permission to republish the collection and I worked hard at the new edition, with illustration for each poem ( the previous edition had only 10 illustrations)

Here are some of the poem titles:

Why do we need a heart?

Past Perfect and Future  Tenses
for this poem on grammar tenses I created a pencil riding an Italian "Vespa"

 The Windy Village
for this poem we made the other way round:
the poem was composed getting inspiration from one of my illustrations for the  New Magazine Imperia

Planet Fair
There is no way to arrive to , nor leave Neptune...

The Light Cloud
This was the first poem I illustrated. It is the story of a chimney with a sore throat.

I have really loved to illustrate these poems, they are beautifully simple.
The last poem of the collection is about a  drop of seawater.

In a sea of drops,
a drop of sea,
what shall it do?
It shall be lulled
by  light and blue waves,
carried away
by every current
on the far away thread
of  horizon,
forgetting
the past
and present,
being nothing
being everything

....translation by me (I worked as a translator for many years...it should not be too bad!)

And this is the cover of the second edition

This last book was published this year

It was the collection of  various authors' works.
Since 2001 I have been drawing the cover of the Imperia New Magazine (see PUBLISHED WORKS). About 80 original works have appeared on the cover, and one year ago we put up a competition on the magazine asking authors to write an essay or a story inspired by one of those covers. . The nicest were put together and published.

Last but not least, here is a personal project of mine. The Stories of Oreste, my birdy character and his friends.

This is one of the illustrations that inspired the story (from  IL MONDO DI ORESTE )

A Night Flight

To create this night flight I took a  blue-coloured paper and drew with my soft pastels. I first closed my eyes and imagined to be a moth that  flew down over the flowers in the moonlight...

Oreste reading Turandot

The Opera Turandot, unaccomplished by Giacomo Puccini , was finished by Franco Alfano.
It tells the story of  the Princess Turandot, who was very cruel with her pretenders...

Things exist...Il existe des choses

If we believe in some thing, if it is in respect of Universal Laws, we have to strongly support and believe  it, giving it the possibility of existing...

Si nous croyons en quelque chose, pourvu que cela soit dans le respect des Lois Universaux, il est préférable de la supporter et d'y croire, lui donnant la possibilité d'exister ...

Strange Waking up

THE BOOK OF THE IMPORTANT THING, written and illustrated by Cristina Berardi

" If what we believe is  in respect of Universal Laws,  it is preferable to support it, giving it a possibility to exist"...

Here it is...after two years  of work...my book was  presented at the Fiera del Libro di Imperia.
I have not been able  to either write or draw in the last month...maybe be as a side effect for  overworking in the previous months. Everything came together! The Book, an exhibition in Bordighera,  the cover illustration I usually have to do for the New Magazine Imperia (one every two months)...and, last but not least, my family has a cute she-dog (such a lot of  extra work)!!!!!

But now I have rested enough ...I feel I can go back to work again! I have started a translation of my "Important Book" (in English and in French). ... I have worked for so many years as a translator for others , now I shall do it  for myself!!  I know it is not the same...but the important thing is to start...(as I say in the introduction to my book).

A NICE BUILDING

work inspired by André François's cover of The New Yorker

My blog lives in a nice building. Here you can see my personal lift to my storey. I am not alone there: I have the best neighbours I could ever have! They are my blogger friends...
Whenever they have time they come to visit me and I do the same.
We exchange ideas and greetings..difficult things to do in real life.

I am always happy to receive visitors: whoever come is welcome!

Have a nice creative year 2012!

A Wave Poem...

Parfois J'aimerais bien pouvoir mettre dans une jolie boite un petit morceau de mer ...seulement une toute petite vague! Je la saisirais dans le moment où elle est plus vive et la garderais sur ma table de travail..

I wish I could put a sea wave in a box, just a little one.. .I would capture her while it rises from water and put her on my desk.

Une bien gentille vague, qui salue un cailloux...

A gentle little wave greeting a stone...

FUNNY ORESTE

Dear Friends,
I have realized I haven't posted anything since last December! I was silent but working!
I would like to show you some drawing that I have created for a book project (I'll be a bit mysterious until I have not finished!!)
This is Oreste...
Oreste is a very clever bird. He loves reading and studying very much...

As you can see he loves sittting under a tree to read. Sometimes he falls asleep..

He knows a lot of things but he doesn't like to show off, like a friend of his...

He likes crime stories, though he is scared...

Oreste has a lot of friends...

He lives in a funny happy world, not far from ours.....

Angels....

Don't ask me why I love drawing angels.
I often choose them as a subject of my cover illustrations. These two were on the New Magazine Imperia December 2003 and 2004 and I did one for this December too.

I was inspired by Rea Irvin's New Yorker covers. He is one of my favourite illustrators.
